I am Maureen Thibault, a candidate for State Representative from Salem, my home since 2016. A lifetime of challenges and opportunities taught me to be patient, to be fair and to persevere. These are the values I will bring to the House as your Representative.
I come from a working-class background, the first of my family to go to college. I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UMass Lowell, in the city in which I grew up. After raising my children, I taught history at the middle and high school levels in Catholic schools. Today I am semi-retired and looking forward to a new journey of self discovery and service.
I always work for my communities. I served on the board of directors of a mixed-nationality co-op in North Andover, MA , am a member of the Salem Democratic Town Committee and a volunteer office manager for the Southern Rockingham County Democratic Coalition.
My years as a mother, grandmother and teacher have taught me to be patient, fair, persevering, faithful and slow to judge. As a mother and teacher I have learned hard lessons in resilience from the loss of stepsons and students to alcohol and drug overdoses, gun suicide, cancer and war.
As a grandmother I now help to raise an autistic grandson and three other amazing grandchildren.
I now step forward to run for public office, believing that I can help move Salem toward a future based on fairness for all her residents.
